OK, here we go! This is my second attempt at blogging. My first blog, Shanghaied Bob http://shanghaiedbob.blogspot.com/,  was about our stay in Shanghai, China from June 2012 to July 2013. To my surprise after several months of posting I averaged  over 300 page views per month. This was exciting and rewarding, and encouraged me to become a better and more thoughtful writer (I do not consider myself a good writer). When you really do the math, if I average 5 posts per month divided by 300 page views, that averages roughly 60 people following me. I guess that’s not to bad?

My new blog will be about our stay in Saudi Arabia. The primary reason why I blog is to let our families get an idea of our life here in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). We also have many friends who have expressed interest in knowing what we are up to, it’s like keeping up with the Weber’s. The other reason is to have a unique way of documenting our travels and experiences. We are not getting any younger and soon enough this might all become a blur. (BoooOOOB) Plus it forces me to sit down and actually write and do research and it will keeps me off the streets.

My goal is similar to Shanghaied Bob, keep it short and sweet, to post bursts of text and lots of pictures, allowing the reader to spend only several minutes on the blog to get the latest installments. KSA will be a lot different than Shanghai, it is not a tourist destination with many historic sites and museums to visit and I think I will be limited in the amount of pictures I will be able to take, especially of the people. For me this part of the world is so different and there is not a lot of information coming out of here except for what you see and read in the news, and that is mostly bad stuff.  One of the things I am interested in is learning what is really happening here, why things are done the way they are, and passing these findings on to you. As a disclaimer, this blog will be of a limited sampling of what we see and do, so what I write about in the future is based on our own experiences and not necessarily a general universal opinion. I plan on doing lots of research and share that with you too.

I am also using a different platform. For Shanghaied Bob I used Google blogger, I am switching over to WordPress,  I think it will give me more flexibility once I fully learn how to use it.

So I am done with my first post. Now that I have broken through the barrier of how to start and what to say, I will get you up to speed of what has been happening so far. But in the next post I will regress to give you a little background too.
